Bachelor of Laws

The four year undergraduate law degree, and the first step towards practising as an attorney or advocate.

The LLB is the standard undergraduate law degree in South Africa. It can be taken over four years straight after school, or after a first degree in another field, in which case it is usually shortened.

The degree on its own does not admit you to practice. Becoming an attorney requires practical vocational training and the admission examinations afterwards, and becoming an advocate requires pupillage.
