The Bachelor of Education is the main route into teaching in South Africa. You choose a phase early on, which decides the age group you will teach, and in the senior phases you also choose subject specialisations.
Teaching practice in real classrooms is a required part of the degree, usually spread across the four years. If you are funding your studies through Funza Lushaka, note that the bursary carries an obligation to teach at a public school afterwards.
