Funza Lushaka teaching bursary

A full cost bursary for students training to teach priority school subjects.

Funza Lushaka is a full cost bursary for students studying towards a teaching qualification, run by the Department of Basic Education. It targets subject areas where schools are short of teachers, which in recent years has included mathematics, the physical sciences, technology subjects and African languages.

The service condition

This bursary comes with an obligation. For every year of funding you receive, you are required to teach for one year at a public school assigned by a provincial education department. Read that condition carefully before you accept, because it is binding.

You must be accepted into an approved teaching qualification at a public university to hold the bursary. Confirm the current priority subject list and the application window on the official website.
